A New Chapter in our Old Alliance

Our company has signed an exclusive agency agreement for the Japanese market with KraussMaffei-Berstorff, the extrusion machinery division of KraussMaffei.
This division, which covers the whole range of machinery used in the processing of plastics and rubber, was born when the world's largest extruder manufacturer, KraussMaffei, acquired the company formerly known as Hermann Berstorff GmbH.
Ever since we signed our first licensing agreement with the former Hermann Berstorff GmbH for their vent type single-screw rubber extruder technology in 1975, we have signed technical licensing agreements with Berstorff covering pin extruders, pin-convert extruders, and rubber gear pump equipped extruders. The mutually beneficial relationship between Mitsuba and Berstorff over the years came to fruition when we were selected as the sole agent in Japan to handle the whole range of KraussMaffei-Berstorff extrusion equipment from their rubber and plastic extruders to downstream equipment.
As their exclusive agent, Mitsuba will comprehensively handle the whole range of KraussMaffei Berstorff extrusion equipment in Japan.

Quick-Switch system

The QuickSwitch system, which is already patented in Europe, North America, and Asia, can automatically change the diameter and pressure class (wall thickness) of PVC and PO pipes with the push of a button on the operation panel, without the need to exchange dies or calibration tools while the line is still running. Whereas conventional production systems require the line to be stopped as well as a cumbersome exchange of die parts, such tasks become unnecessary with the QuickSwitch system. Not only is productivity increased, but the significant reduction in waste generation makes this device environmentally friendly as well. Moreover, its ability to respond quickly to rush orders also contributes to the reduction of inventory. This system consists mainly of the pin type pipe head, suction bell, sizing basket, adjustable end seal, guide pipe, haul-off machine, and cutting machine.

KMD32 type counter-rotating twin-screw extruder

Extruder for U-PVC extrusions for window profiles, etc..
The L/D ratio of conventional machines was increased from 26 to 32, to increase the specific output.
While the energy input is increased, the shear energy is reduced, improving the overall energy balance, leading to greater flexibility with respect to various additives (such as stabilizers).
As a result, production parameters can be optimized with ease when developing new products.
Further, the newly developed screw design enables optimal and automatic control of the internal temperature of the screw, improving compound homogeneity and reducing pressure fluctuations, resulting in outstanding improvements to product quality.
A strong gearbox that can withstand high screw torques is adopted. The compact and rugged gearbox is of a low vibration type that is designed to withstand even the backpressure of the screw. The 32D twin-screw extruder is suitable for the production of window frame profiles, cable ducts, foam profiles, and the production of co-extrusions.

Co-rotating twin-screw extruder
(ZE-UTX/UT series)

A gearbox of the highest standard is used to achieve high speed and high torque operations in compounding applications, reaction processes, and degassing processes. The surface of the barrel bore of the ZE-UTX series is directly hardened by means of an innovative fabrication method (special heat treatment process), so the cooling jacket and processing part are close to each other, to achieve superior cooling effects. Further, by combining the extruder with a melt pump, compounding and forming can be carried out in a single process.

Foam Extrusion systems

This system consists of two stages: the plasticization & gas insertion stage, and the cooling stage.
In the first stage, a co-rotating twin-screw extruder is adopted to enable the gas to disperse evenly in the elastomer melt.
This system is used in the manufacture of insulation boards for the construction industry, foam beads, soundproof sheets, packaging materials, and food trays, etc.

PlanetCalender

The PlanetCalender is a polishing roll type calender that is ideal for the production of clear sheets and films from PMMA, PC, PETG, and SAN compounds. Because the positions of Roll-1 and Roll-3 can be rearranged as desired, the PlanetCalender can deliver the process engineering advantages of the standard horizontal, inclined, or vertical roll arrangements all in a single unit.
The entire frame of the PlanetCalender can be turned to optimize the feed angle of the melt. Moreover, the resident time of the melt over central Roll-2 can be controlled by adjusting the position of Roll-3 relative to Roll-2. As a result, optimal cooling conditions can be provided for a wide range of material types and thicknesses.
The melt resident time on Roll-2 can be adjusted to the type of material and sheet thickness. The feed angle, determined by the weight and elongation of the melt, can be changed by adjusting the position of the first roll.
