New Extrusion Concept for UD Pads

UD Tape (Unidirectional Tape) is a thermoplastic tape made of glass or carbon reinforced fibers embedded parallel to a thermoplastic matrix.
UD tape's thermosetting solutions feature shorter production times and lower weights when compared to other methods of manufacturing fiber-reinforced plastic components.

Product Features

To withstand the mechanical forces, parts require a fiber re-enforcement.
But the injection molding process limits the fiber length nd thus the mechanical strength.
Consequently cut-outs/openings and areas where mechanical forces are transmitted into the part require special measures.
Increasing the fiber content, the wall thickness or using metal inserts (at dedicated positions) are the options to improve the strength but increase part weight and cost, as well!
UD tapes/pads, a sheet with uni-directional embedded fibers, won’t increase the weight, are less costly and easier fit to the morphology* of the part
*Morphology: In the plastics industry, it is mainly used to mean “how the components of two or more polymers (or additives) are mixed together.” In crystalline polymers, it is also used as a term to describe the size of the crystal and how it is stretched.
